Cubicle Cultures — Time for a career and attitude adjustment

There’s nothing like career freedom. After my franchise closed, I knew I was going back into the world of voiceovers (VO). Basically from the cubicle to the booth (or is it booth-icle?) I tried doing VO work several years ago and it crashed and burned pretty harshly.

Many times I’ve heard, “Wow, you have a great voice! Have you thought of doing radio or voiceovers?”. Yep, many times. I was a radio DJ, now called “on-air personalities”, back in the 80s for a short while. It was a peek into the underbelly of radio as a media platform instead of just something to listen to; didn’t care much for it. In the mid to late oughts, I decided to try VO work. It failed on a spectacular scale thanks to my impatience, lack of professional training, and general immaturity. Every time I wasn’t chosen for a role I took it personally…way wrong thing to do as I’ve learned. After a few hundred auditions, it was clear I wasn’t ready.
