Is remote working worth it? Damn skippy it is.

After 25+ years of going to the office, sitting within my assigned 6x6 piece of office real estate, floating in a sea of languishing peers, and the smell of burnt popcorn, I thought of remote working as an opportunity for slacking off. How wrong I was. I mean, really wrong.

I recently closed a franchise location and decided to go back to IT work which is what I thought owning a franchise would save me from. Owning a franchise is a lot of fun, especially when there’s solid support from their respective headquarters which I had but it didn’t work out and we parted on friendly terms. I thought I was reinventing myself as a business owner but it brought me right back to IT. I’ve never regretted either decision.

Working remotely was never on my radar. Not once did I think I could be productive with all the usual trappings and distractions, ie tv, cats, fridge full of food that didn’t require having a name sprawled on it. Instead, I found it surprisingly pleasant and wonderfully productive. My job satisfaction returned once my work/life balance was restored. Go figure.

I know what you’re probably not thinking, doesn’t working from home just become another cubicle adventure? Nope, not at all. Differences include:
